This policy explains how Flint (we, us) handles information when you use the Flint Chrome extension and the website at appflint.online.

Summary

Flint is built to clean and inspect URLs in your browser. Core URL cleaning and local risk analysis run on your device. We do not sell your personal information, run ads, or use analytics trackers in the extension.

Some optional features contact external services only when you use or configure them, for example short-link expansion, link expiry checks, license activation, or optional API lookups you enable with your own keys.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Flint's use of personal and sensitive user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements:

  • Allowed use We only use data to provide or improve Flint's single purpose: helping you clean, preview, inspect, and share URLs.
  • Allowed transfer We only share data with third parties when needed for features you use (such as Dodo Payments for licenses, shortener hosts for expansion, or security APIs you configure with your own key), to comply with law, or for security.
  • No advertising We do not use or transfer user data for personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising.
  • No human reading We do not allow humans to read your browsing data. We may read information you voluntarily send us in support emails.

Data we collect (Chrome Web Store disclosure)

Flint discloses the following categories of user data in the Chrome Web Store. We collect this data only to provide Flint’s URL cleaning and link inspection features:

  • Personally identifiable information URLs you process may contain identifying query parameters or paths; a local install identifier stored on your device; a Pro license key if you choose to activate; and any information you voluntarily include in support emails. Flint does not ask for your name, home address, or phone number inside the extension.
  • Web history if you enable Pro cleaned link history, Flint stores the last 100 cleaned or copied URLs on your device, along with related metadata such as when the entry was saved and basic risk/cleanup details.
  • Website content hyperlinks and page URLs you interact with through Flint, including the current tab URL, pasted URLs, right-clicked link addresses, and link href values used for hover preview. Flint does not collect full page text, images, audio, or video from websites.

Flint does not collect health information, financial or payment card data, authentication passwords, personal communications, precise location, or keystroke/click activity logs.

Information the extension processes

Depending on how you use Flint, the extension may process web browsing activity mainly the URLs you choose to clean, preview, paste, expand, open, or save. This can include:

  • Tab and link URLs from the page you are viewing, a link you right-click, or a URL you paste into Flint
  • Hover preview data when hover preview is enabled, Flint reads the href of links you hover so it can show destination and risk information. It does not read passwords, form fields, or unrelated page text.
  • Clipboard writes when you choose Copy clean link or similar actions, Flint places the cleaned URL on your clipboard
  • Settings such as auto-clean, hover preview, dark mode, custom parameter rules, and domain whitelist
  • License key if you activate Flint Pro Lifetime
  • API keys you optionally add for VirusTotal or Google Web Risk (Lifetime BYOK)
  • A local install identifier and a browser instance label sent to Dodo Payments when you activate or deactivate a license on a device
  • Bulk import files (Pro) CSV, TSV, TXT, or HTML files you choose are read locally in your browser to extract links for cleaning
  • QR codes (Pro Lifetime) generated locally in the popup and downloaded to your device

URLs you clean may contain identifying information if they include tracking parameters or personal paths. Treat shared links accordingly. Flint does not collect your contacts, photos, camera, location, or microphone data.

Local URL Monitoring

To provide its core functionality, Flint monitors the URLs you visit in real-time, including dynamic on-page navigation (Single Page Applications). This monitoring happens entirely locally on your device. Flint only reads the URL to detect and remove known tracking parameters. Your browsing history and the URLs you visit are never collected, logged, or transmitted to our servers or any third parties.

Network Request Interception (Adult Blocker & SafeSearch)

Flint uses Chrome's native declarativeNetRequest API to provide the optional Adult Content Blocker feature. When enabled, this feature works entirely locally to:

  • Block Adult Domains: Intercept and block network requests to over 80,000 known explicit websites.
  • Enforce SafeSearch: Automatically append strict SafeSearch query parameters (e.g., &safe=active) to search engine queries (such as Google and Bing) to hide explicit images and links from search results before they even load.

This network interception is completely private. Flint does not collect, log, or transmit the websites you visit or the network requests you make. The blocklists are stored statically within the extension package.

Website data

The appflint.online marketing site is a static website. We do not ask you to create an account on the site. If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to send.

When you click Get Lifetime, you are redirected to Dodo Payments to complete checkout. Payment details (such as email and card information) are collected by Dodo on their hosted checkout page, not by Flint directly.

The website may load fonts from Google Fonts, which can involve a request to Google's servers. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) may also process standard technical logs or security data needed to serve the site. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar marketing trackers on the marketing site.

Third-party services

  • Dodo Payments processes Pro Lifetime purchases and validates license keys when you activate or deactivate Pro in the extension. See Dodo's privacy policy.
  • Short-link hosts contacted when Flint expands a shortened URL you choose to inspect.
  • VirusTotal / Google Web Risk contacted only if you add your own API key and run an optional check.
  • Google Chrome sync if enabled in your browser, Flint settings may sync through Google's Chrome sync service under Google's policies.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties outside approved use cases (such as license verification, short-link expansion, or optional API checks you enable).
  • We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to Flint's single purpose of cleaning and inspecting URLs.
  • We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
  • We do not use the extension for advertising or retargeting.
  • We do not use Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, or similar marketing trackers in the extension.
  • We do not collect your contacts, photos, camera, location, or microphone.
  • We do not execute remotely hosted code in the extension all extension logic is bundled in the package.

How we use information

We use information only to:

  • Provide URL cleaning, preview, and inspection features you request
  • Store your preferences and optional Pro history on your device
  • Activate and manage Pro Lifetime licenses
  • Respond to support or contact emails you send us
  • Improve and maintain Flint

Data retention

  • Extension settings and history remain on your device until you clear them, uninstall the extension, or disable history.
  • License activation records are managed by Dodo Payments according to their retention practices.
  • Support emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

Children’s privacy

Flint is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing.

You can control much of your data directly in Flint:

  • Turn features on or off in extension settings
  • Clear or disable Pro link history
  • Remove custom rules, whitelist entries, and saved API keys
  • Deactivate your license on a device
  • Uninstall the extension to remove local data

California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents may request access to or deletion of personal information we hold. Contact contact@appflint.online to submit a request.

EEA, UK, and Swiss users (GDPR)

Our legal bases for processing typically include performing our service (providing Flint), your choices when enabling optional features, and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the product. You may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

International transfers

If you use optional features that contact third-party services (such as Dodo Payments, shortener hosts, or security API providers), your information may be processed in countries where those providers operate.

Security

When Flint sends data to external services (such as Dodo Payments, shortener hosts, VirusTotal, or Google Web Risk), those requests are made over HTTPS or another secure connection.

Data stored in the extension on your device uses Chrome's local and sync storage APIs. If Chrome sync is enabled, synced settings may be stored in your Google account under Google's policies.

We take reasonable measures to protect information within our control. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Keep your license key and any API keys private.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Flint after changes means you accept the updated policy.
